Very nice educational video
For me, definitely to not spending so much on food and start planning my meals and make them myself. I got a bad habit ordering too much from restaurants, and buying food (often dinner meals) that I just need to warm in the oven.
I stopped drinking again recently and as a result, I can drive myself and pick up friends instead of using a car sharing service. This also results in $40-$100 less on my drinks out with friends along with no binge eating and not working out because I feel terrible. The end result is losing weight, saving money, and exercising more.
One scenario regarding my career is that either I can : 1. Instant Gratification change to a new employer with a little pay hike within a month but sacrifice the remote work and spare time I have earned in my current employment.
2. Delayed Gratification= I can continue in this job for a few more months while I leverage my spare time to upskill/ educate myself with Moralis academy and later on get my dreamjob of being a blockcahin developer.
Ich beginne immer wieder mehrere Projekte gleichzeitig - ich sollte mich auf eines konzentrieren und dieses abschlieĂen bevor ich ein Neues beginne.
I could buy less ice cream
Lowering time preference should be easy once the concept is understood. What comes to mind is to not underestimate the small changes in the long run. Resisting the urge to buy a piece of chocolate 100 times in a year could be worth 1000 bucks. Lowering time preference is to control dopamine triggers. It is the thought that tries to convince us that we will feel better if we take the chocolate, check anti-social media once more or stay up longer in front of the tv. Fasting and meditation are good ways of lowering dopamine urges of all kinds. I have been slacking on both lately and will set up new stricter rules after Christmas! Happy Holidays!
Iâve already started implementing a lot of healthy habits in the past 2 years, like getting up early each morning and doing 1 hour exercise or go running. But havenât been able to go to bed before midnight. My instant gratification is: after long day of work I just want to relax for an hour or two and not think about anything, so just watch some YT or some other stupid stuff⌠I should instead finish my work earlier and try to calm myself down with some meditation, yoga or breathing exercise. This would make it easier to start to go to bed earlier. But because itâs a process of implementing small changes to the everyday life, it makes it difficult.
This is something I can see in some habits that Iâve let in the past: I stopped smoking weed and drinking alcohol (even though in both cases, we talk about buying goods).
My goal for now is questioning myself more often about how I spend money. Is it worth it? Is it a kind of investment? Do I really have a reason or even a need for it? It would start by cooking more rather than, sometimes, being hella lazy and order something. Of course it feels good not to spend energy onto something that could sound annoying, but in the end itâs not good for my health nor my bank account. Same for cigarettes, itâs been a while Iâm smoking and even if I donât always pay for them with money, it has a cost which is my health and itâs probably the most valuable thing I have. Realizing it was the first step, now itâs time to move onto the second one and quit smoking.
Most of my post-teenage years were spent living an instant gratification lifestyle, but now itâs slowly changing. My objectives arenât the same, I feel like I really need to grow as a person.
Good luck to anyone who reads this and wants to change their habits too, you can do it
I could spend less time browsing time-wasting websites like Reddit and more time on online courses or personal projects.
I often tend to avoid argues and deep talks with my girlfriend. I have quite often important topics which i honestly should discuss with her. That´s often quite difficult and i have to leave my comfort zone for that. Instead of that i wait and wait and wait again until the bomb bursts and we have a heavy discussion. That´s where i have a high time preference. Next time i could focus on talking about the important things directlyâŚwould be much healthier and for the long term better
Instead of watching 2 episodes on Netflix I just watch one and read a chapter of a book for the length of the other episode
I plan to study programming hard since basic until business logic.I hope it help change my life in the future and use time less on entertainment.
For me - I would like to create a mega art piece instead of my short term art pieces that might take a few days - maybe I should make a piece that takes weeks or a monthâŚ
Might create something really special
I am actually doing this course right now after finishing the intro to blockchain, BTC 101, and Ether 101 courses, because Iâd like to be in the best possible position to take the DeFi 101 course. During the intro to one of the instructors of the DeFi 101 course, he highly recommended this and another course, which I initially thought (and kinda still think) are unnecessary. But Iâm quite enjoying getting to know more about the idealistic drive that programmers and crypto enthusiasts have that is separate from just making money. Itâs pretty messed up what legacy finance has done to the world, and I think that taking the time to learn about this now, will make it more fulfilling when I eventually return to the DeFi 101 course.
Instead of spending money I do not really need to spend I study to increase my financial education and skills so I have more money available in the future and can afford things much more than I do now.
Waking at between 4 or 5 in the morning with some exercise consistently, would lead to increased focus and having more productive days.
Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education).
Wake up an hour early every day to go to the gym before I walk the dog & go to work.
I need to start my day doing laundry. Get up, start the coffee and then push the process forward by a step, do some folding, putting away.
When I donât, I suffer shortages of clothes when I am running out the door, so sometimes I find I have time to go to the gym, but no gym clothes with me, or in extreme cases, I will buy a clean set of underwear/socks/t-shirt/pants when I have to spend the night away from home, but neglected to do enough laundry to have it ready to pack before I leave that morning.
This simple habit would save me money, time, embarrassment and stress.
I started making excersice a few years ago, itâs been good for me. I need to focus more on diet
