Set up a good sleep pattern. Go to bed at the same time and wake up without snoozing for a half hour…
The first thing that comes to my mind which I am already in the process of doing is understanding the vital importance of independently growing food. I choose to do this for dietary, health and educational reasons. This promotes and further increases the level of independence. Although this requires investing in time and effort, the immediate instant gratification will not be obtained due to time preference.
Going to sleep at most at 11pm every night, so I can wake up at 7am refreshed and being able to study at least around an hour each morning.
By starting cooking lunches - I could buy less food in the nearest shop and thus save some money for the investments into BTC, ETH or ADA.
The meal/diet/exercise example works perfectly for me, especially since my digestive system is quite sensitive.
After a workout, instead of opting for quick & convenient snacks, I shall reward myself with a home-cooked, protein rich meal instead. This delays the gratification and adds an extra step of cooking, but my guts will be MUCH happier with me in the hours to come. If this habit continues on consistent basis, I will see the long-term gains in my body and weight-loss (because my convenient snacks are easier to over-eat than a portioned meal, and generally less nutritious).
Interesting! I am currently experiencing the opposite- my hobbies bring me short term mood & exercise gains, but they don’t amount to much long-term satisfaction. Working on the Academy feels like the opposite- future Krysten will be thankful.
I find it very interesting that people can have such an opposite example of the same topic, and both be valid/correct
I think the pivot point is that I’ve been working on my future/doing extra-curricular things for a while, and yet I get so much satisfaction from them, I do feel like something is missing at the end of the day. I realized that when I marathon work all day, I actually get less done than when I take breaks consistently.
I do love what I do though, I’m just trying to keep myself from turning into a workaholic (If I’m not one already heh ).
For every dollar/euro I receive on my bankaccount I transfer 25% of it to a savings account or put it in Gold/BTC.
I must decrease my spendings by making my own food and buying less fancy techno-gadgets
At night when I am restless and not ready for bed, I often used to have a bowl of ice cream and watch TV with my wife. Recently we’ve changed our habits, and now we get in bed early and read self-help books or meditate. I think this has shifted my time preference, because instead of the instant gratification of sugar and entertainment, we now indulge ourselves in the delayed gratification (via meditation and reading) of strengthening ourselves spiritually and psychologically.
Literally the easiest (but also somehow the hardest) is to take a portion of my social media time and do some simple exercises. Accumulation of small habits is key.
I have to start going to bed earlier and getting up earlier to be more productive and have a clearer mind to better accomplish my goals.
Spend less time on youtube and invest in learning a skill
I could change my use/ consumption of food eaten from the microwave. Instead I could use the BBQ or oven to slowly cook my food. This would take longer but taste better and potentially be healthier.
Conscious self control with a target for a desired outcome that exists in the future is necessary. I think meditation and been conscious and realistic of your activities, wants, desires will take you there.
I am going to set a similar goal as someone else commented, I am going to spend less time on Youtube and social media to invest more time into IvanonTech course.
I could do more exercises, it would be equivalent to find a job that pays better, because I am already well disciplined in just eating the necessary quantity of food that I need. So my health savings could be higher this way.
Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education).
I usually expect to understand complex concepts after investing a short period of time (high time preference), for example when learning programming. I would like to approach learning difficult things with a lower time preference. I can focus more in following the learning process of continuos practice and patience for solving difficult problems.
I have no income streams and live a volunteer lifestyle. What comes to me is donated or found.
From time to time, whenever I felt I had accomplished a great deal at my day job or in some personal business projects during the week, I would go into a minor binge of drinking Coca-Cola and eating crunchy and highly flavored chip snacks and watching TV shows and movies and playing video games for the whole Saturday thinking that “You worked hard and deserve to relax.” But then by not taking care of certain necessary chores during Saturdays, they then affect the rest of my coming week by creating lacks and time crunches because I failed to prepare beforehand. Needless to say, after such binge, I would also wake up Sunday morning and notice suddenly my waist line had expanded alarmingly overnight as well, which would then take a few more days of focused efforts of calories counting and exercising to rid of. Instead of going into this kind of instant minor binge just so to “reward and relax” myself, I could just go out to have a nice lunch with good friends and be out and about on a short hike in the morning or some other physical activities that would truly relax me and keeping me psychologically and physically sound while still allow me time to do my chores later at Saturdays. It may appear to be more work and stress to still have to follow a schedule, call up friends and arrange to meet, and to go outside and be physically active after an already busy week, instead of just stock up on the tasty goodies and enjoy myself, go to sleep late, get up late and staying home and chill, but the extra work to get to socialize with friends, eating good food, and being active outdoors are all going to pay much more positive dividends than the negatives I would get by instantly gratifying myself and then just blow my Saturday and causing more stress into the following week. I may have had excuses before to stay home because of COVID concerns, but I could do much better now, as restrictions are being lifted, to delay my urge to instantly gratify myself, and to engage in other much more positive activities, so to get much better outcomes for my time spent over the weekends.
