I only learned that one in the last few
I change I could make to one of my habits would apply to my diet. I need to eat more. Because of the depression and loneliness that resulted from the COVID-19 quarantine, I have lost a few pounds. I need to regain that weight by eating more and choosing healthier food options.
A change I could make to one of my habits is decreasing or erasing the amount of ice cream I consume. Two or three times a week I will go buy ice cream with my friends as a way to have an excuse to go for a drive, enjoy conversation, and enjoy a treat. I often use it as a reward system for good days. If I found an alternative, such as going for a swim at the lake, or finding an alternative, healthier dessert/snack this would doubly invest in my wealth and health. First, if I went for a free alternative this would lower the money I’m spending on an unnecessary item. I would be saving money, simply put. Second, I would be turning that time and energy into something that would benefit my health, as opposed to damaging it.
As a musician I am used to study and keep on going to study for concerts and recitals, so studying is quit a nature to me… now I have to use the time in the evenings, where I take time to relax and watch tv, now I use this time to study crypto , So I rescedule to sports in the morning , teaching in the afternoon, studying at night
Get up earlier in the morning. I have a big need for sleep, but if it is more than 11 hours the effect kinda goes away. So I’ll try keeping it at 7-8 hours and do something productive, like working out or taking more lessons on this academy
To go toward a more delayed gratification schedule i would have to say i should work out more. I already try to work out 3 times a week, but sometimes fail in doing so; If i can push through and complete this task, my future self will be fit and proud.
I could spend less time on checking crypto prices and spend more time on learning about crypto to not only be a passive consumer but an active participant!
I’ve observed personally spending time learning to trade bitcoin using technical analysis seemed to be a very profitable thing to do, but in reality, waiting for trading setups is very time consuming. After 10 months of doing this, I’ve learnt to trade but now I’ve found the time spent trading is an exercise in diminishing returns. So I’ve decided to invest my time in this academy.
For every hour spent in education, it is far more valuable than an hour spent trading. Also I’ve realized that while spending hours studying, I can still trade on higher timeframes with alarms to notify me of key price areas that have been defined in my strategy.
Buy new clothing: first, check if I really really need another dress. If so: go to the shop, buy only what fits me very well and I am sure I will like to wear. Pay money - and experience a very short moment of being happy with the buy.
Go home - check again if it still is the dress I need - in case I am no more that happy with buy: bring back, and get money back - happy with getting money back.
Maybe take this money, and buy something else - and again a short moment of happiness.
Call this: “The Threfold Consumer Happiness - with just the same amount of money spent”
I could change my habit instead of watching certain Netflix movies ( instant gratification) to do more online courses like this one for example.
Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education).
Now that I am not working I stopped using / setting alarms and I often go to sleep at anytime, I no longer have a set schedule though it feels great to wake up when I wake up it is counterproductive to accomplishing set goals. Now I can set a schedule on a daily basis to fortify discipline into my life and make the most of this “downtime”
As I hopefully take the necessary steps towards becoming someone who I can look proudly in the mirror at, subjectively of course, I see myself improving primarily on my morning habits and moving towards the practice of “delayed gratification”. I am a “sleepoholic” and have been since I was little, while that might’ve been fine while I was eight years old, now that I am twenty three its becoming more and more of a nuisance in life than something that just “feels good”. I will work on not only waking up earlier and accomplishing more within the hours that I am awake, but also changing my sleeping habits (time I fall asleep and the activities I partake in before hand). Wish me luck, I’m going to need it!
In my case, the change I propose is to break my average level of results to get to my full potential. This is related to my mindset. The habits to change at this level is to go 100% on focusing in discipline which will bring constancy and results in achieving my goals.
I could procrastinate less and study more.
Playing poker is something I enjoy. But, it includes frequent periods of boring play without action. So, at this very moment, I am trying out to simultaneously study at Ivanontech and playing poker. I will need to evaluate if this fun experiment will result in me remembering my teachings!
I could workout more to have a better health in the long term and have more energy over time. It will cost me time and energy in the short term though, so I am shifting my time preference to later.
I could sleep less in the morning and do more self-education instead.
During this Copvid-19 pandemic my accessibility to the type of exercise I am accustomed to has completely disappeared (competitive indoor racquetball); I have found myself taking healthier portions of food when having a main meal. I need to make a portion controlled decision to reduce my quantitative intake. Being self-disciplined when it is hard to do so builds character when you have a much higher priority in view. And it all begins with our power to choose what is best at the expense of what is good!
Less static - sit at pc videogames and more active moment, sports.
Perhaps I could play vr sports/movement based videogames instead and combine the 2.
Learning to cook and eat more healthy meals. By doing this not only do I generally save more money (rather than eating takeouts), I also learn new skills and develop new habits. Plus I lose a little weight too so an investment in my long term future - this is a low time preference!
