Activity Lesson 2

Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education).

A change to one of my habits would have to be my use of time, my ability to lose track of it or waste it seems to be very productive. As the saying would be “Procrastinators unite… Tomorrow” I would also argue use of time would affect me more than just being mentally focused, but allow myself to be driven to learning more which is why I’m here in this academy. By learning more I can become financially more fiscal, by being more financially sound I will have more time to create healthier habits

For me, try to take care more of myself. i make a list of “what to do” every day like studying more often, eating healthy, exercise, sleep well, etc… as long I am feeling good, I can keep going and get all my goals done!

If I went to bed 15 mins earlier and got up 15 mins earlier, I could do a short yoga session every morning, with great long term benefits to my health.

I need to sign into my Duolingo Language class everyday, at least just to hit my daily goal of 50pts a day, so I will be able to speak Portuguese muito bem.

Spend less time gaming thus also reducing the amount of money spent on new hardware and games or in-game real-money items… and spend the time and money saved to buy and read financial books or courses thus developing an open mind when it comes to opportunities that could lead to my future financial independence…

Since I start studying this course I had to change my daily routine but still I believe it can be better. So I’ll add some time to make exercises. So, when my incomes increases, I’ll save more money.

When trading crypto, I could spend more time to do proper research into long term investments; rather than expecting high returns in a matter of days or weeks.

In order for me to be a successful blockchain developer, I need to sacrifice time out of everyday for the next couple of months to learn from this academy. My time preference is reduced due to delaying the gratification of getting home from work and relaxing --to using that time to study in this academy; thus increasing my chances of being a blockchain developer in the future.

I tend to drink multiple cups of my Keurig coffee. I can cut this down to 1 cup a day or better yet only have every other day.

I have started to get up earlier this year and really focus on reading more books in the morning and staying off social media. My mindset towards everyday has greatly improved and mentally i am focused on my goals and not distracted by other people.

I already live well below my possibility which allow me to save money.
I therefore set out to meditate every day versus watching Netflix

After coming home from work and then i like to be on social media, watch tiktoks etc. but instead i should come here and learn a little bit something new or go for a walk/to a gym. One other good habit is cooking at home because its financially better than to order fast food or pre made food, healthier and kinda educational because eventually you will try to cook different meals.

Get up from bed up in the morning when I wake up or at the moment the alarm sounds, instead of delaying it for 15 more minutes, I think this makes me more tired in the end.
In relationships I would give myself more time to meet the people and listen to them with no rush, trying to ask more questions to understand them.

Recently I saw an interesting video on how dopamine effects our lives. I believe that dopamine connects all of these customs that we have. The way to solve it is first you have to get a dopamine detox - no social media, no video games etc. Because if they are in constant supply you know (at least on a deep level) that you are wasting your time. Over time you get accustomed to a certain level and that is your new standard. If you first detox for a while, your bar of how much dopamine you are used to getting in a day will be set lower and your job is to keep it low. Activities that release more dopamine should be used as rewards for doing something that has to be done, but it is hard to do. The best solution however is to get pleasure (dopamine) by doing something good for yourself (education, spiritual growth, investement) that may give little pleasure in the short run, but will accumulate over time.

  1. I made it a point to learn to cook better and to rarely buy take out or go to restaurants. Not only do you save enough to buy better groceries and much cheaper in the end, it is way more healthy. Also, busting my ass studying this course now for more freedom in the future.
(I know it says a change I “could” make but, I have changed so many habits in the last 6 months I can’t keep up. Not bragging, started low)

I need spend less, buy Bitcoin and eat healthy. And relax more.

During this lock down I became lazy and started eating more junk food. I need to cut down on junk food, start meditating and get back on working out again.
Sound mind, sound body.

Most of my goals are longer term already. But on diet, if I made a rule never to eat ice cream (which I absolutely love) unless I’ve walked 3 miles that day, this would release short term gratification on the days I don’t walk and make it easily offset on the days I do…

I just started waking up an hour earlier everyday before work just so I can get a guaranteed hour of work done on this course everyday without any distractions, instead of sleeping an extra hour.

For me excercise and diet are two major needs. I had already increased this, but need to be more consistent (especially now that winter is here)…

  • I defintely need to take this up… And started by taking first a walk each week for at least 1 mile as a family.
  • Also getting my kids motivating each other to do other excercises. (and increasing each day)
  • I need to do more so adding a two then three or daily… would help. Along with reduced food.

(My work, crypto research/investing, social currently with lock downs are all from my computer, as is this course).

  • In part the goal of diet/excercise is to be in better shape for after lockdown, when we can travel.
