i could start writing down a list of goals more often. i have adhd and its hard to stay on task sometimes because alot is either going on around me or in my head.
(i actually have started writing down the list)
in return what this will do for me is by checking off things on my list. it gives me opportunity to see what ive done and by completing task im reaching my goals alot faster than getting side tracked and losing focus on what matters most.
There are many ways to reduce time preferences from high to low. It depends on what you are willing to do or sacrifice in order to achieve that, whether they be fitness, financial, or educational goals. The instant gratification of finding a new job can be delayed by investing your time into professional courses.
Spending less time watching movies, and TV shows on video streaming services, and investing that time towards studying and up-skilling myself so that I can improve my career prospects.
Practicing playing with my children. I love learning, and sometimes I allow the subject of choice to overflow into my “time off,” which takes me away from being fully present with them. I will set a goal to have 3 hours of “off” time an evening to be in the moment. This means no multitasking during those hours. It is sometimes hard for me to recharge, and I realize that I am never giving my mind, body, or soul the allotted time to do so. For this to happen, I need to have a realistic schedule for all my responsibilities and desires. I would need to create some ritual to perform in between switching tasks to remind me to unload mentally and be clear to approach the next project.
Great question!
instead of watching tv for 2 hours a day, make it 1.5 hours and fitness every day for 30 mins
Taking extra time from my lunch to get back into IoT. I’ve been in college and have really slacked off on IoT but I plan to slowly get myself back into doing more here starting with 10 minutes dedicated to IoT Academy courses.
Exchanging foods that I think are unhealthy for a balanced meal that in the long run will help my health
My goal from this point forward, to take one aspect of this, is to increase my time exercising and slowly switch the food I eat from less sugar and more of the beneficial foods that are full of vitamins and energy.
Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education).
- Exercise more independent thinking and leave biased opinions from others aside. Listen to everyone, but take unbiased independent final decisions.
I would quit smoking, saving me time in my day & more than likely adding to my lifespan (or at least not subtracting from it) then use the currency I spend on it normally on current or new investments. (currently attempting this, it is not going well.)
The easiest one for me is finance, instead of getting a larger paycheck you can opt to have a portion of your pay be divided off and sent into a saving or investment account so that you never see the money and are therefore not tempted to spend it. It will add up and then eventually be much larger than you expect.
I could spend less time on a job i don’t like and make more money doing something that excites me.
I need to stop smoking and buy more bitcoins with every packet of cigarettes I don’t buy.
Instead of spending time in my head (on how and why I should make a certain change) thinking I’m truly helping myself looking for the perfect solution, actually just start doing one small thing at a time and see what it leads to. This will free up mental time worrying about an outcome (procrastination) and instead will help to walk new paths. It’s better to fail quickly and learn from mistakes than to have never tried at all.
I want to get up earlier and go for a run in the morning. Doing challenging things in the morning is easier, I gain momentum plus I got more time to be productive. Goals for 2021
I tend to spend too much money on the daily at convenience stores for junk that is both more expensive and generally not good for your overall health, a habit i really need to cut back on. If i did that, i’d save more money and be overall more healthy in the long run.
I can:
Not upgrade my lifestyle once I get a salary increase.
Buy less from restaurants make my own meals
Settle for a smaller apartment
Rent instead of buying
Save more.
Take less expensive vacations
Doing these courses is a step towards this goal as I have chosen to reduce the time I waste (sleep / tv / music etc.) to learn about something new. I also have a habit of buying the latest mobiles and getting them on the release day whereas waiting a few months will reduce the cost and make little difference other teaching me to be more practical / patient.
Spending less time on entertainment will bring me more time to educate myself and achieve my goals.
Sleeping (power nap) after A big exercise. less likely to eat to “feel” better.
