Introduce yourself

Hi all,

I’m Doug and I live in the USA, big fan of the 80s movie series “Short Circuit” hence the nickname. I found out about Bitcoin in 2013 and went down the rabbit hole the beginning of 2014 and been involved since then (from mining, setting up nodes, etc).

I appreciate the early ethos of the community by empowering people across the world with the option to have financial sovereignty/personal responsibility. The fact that the first created Bitcoin block in 2009 (known as the Genesis Block) has an embedded message in its coinbase, shows exactly why Bitcoin was created and now there are 1500+ cryptocurrencies in existence is just fascinating and very excited to see where we go from here!

For anyone interested, just use a Hexadecimal to ASCII converter on the following HEX Code which Satoshi Nakamoto put in the Bitcoin Genesis Block scriptsig :

04FFFF001D0104455468652054696D65732030332F4A616E2F32303039204368616E63656C6C6F72206F6E206272696E6B206F66207365636F6E64206261696C6F757420666F722062616E6B73

Pretty much that is one of the main reasons why I ame in this space. I am really excited on this programming path and look forward on getting different perspectives from others in this space!

Hi everyone.

I am Freddie. I come from Vancouver, Canada - and I am one of the 2 founders of Dcntrl (Decentral Vancouver, Feb 2014). I now live in Hanoi, Vietnam … just cuz it’s super chill and relaxing here. I have 4 cats.

I am very lucky to have been at the right place at the right time (Vancouver, Sept 2013) and super thankful for all that time spent in that basement hackspace with all those awesome kooks at Decentral.

Now here looking forward to gathering some new skills, tools, insights and friends!

Good times!

Hello - greetings to everyone. Am a Software Developer with specialisation in Java. Am interested in: (i) low latency high throughput Java NIO multi threaded software development (ii) how one can run untrusted downloaded Java software in a sandboxed runtime (iii) alternatives to SSL which allow symmetric keys to be exchanged without trust chains (these kind of systems work by throwing away keys if a man in the middle is detected). (iv) Blockchain and alternatives such as hashgraph (v) How DHT can co-exist with blockchain

Hello. My name is Joe. I am from the US.

I have a bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems. I have been working as a software developer on legacy batch mainframe COBOL applications for over 2 years. I hope to leverage skills I learn in this course to transition into blockchain development.

I become obsessed with cryptocurrencies after building my first GPU mining rig in January of this year. I began by watching great content on YouTube from IvanOnTech and many others, moving on to Twitter, Reddit, BitcoinTalk, Telegram, Discord, GitHub, and so on!

Like many, I bought by first crypto using Coinbase and I started trading on GDAX. Quickly moving on to other exchanges like Poloniex and Binance, but now, I mostly just hodl!

I built an AMD rig, so I mine Ethereum typically. I have a few Antminers now too. Most recently, some of my friends and I have started staking coins to spin-off masternodes using VPS hosting.

My hopes are to become involved with building this new crypto ecosystem while maintaining many of the core values that make it great! I believe in the cypherpunk principles that bitcoin was founded upon. I would like to contribute to meaningful projects that have the most disruptive potential for good… at least that is my end game!

Like Anton would say, let’s Keep it weird!

Cheers to all. Good luck everyone!

Hey all, Captn here. I first heard about blockchain through bitcoin back in 2014 when Mt.Gox crashed but didn’t really do much about it (bummer :stuck_out_tongue:) the notion of unstoppable smart contracts really intrigues me as i believe that most of our current tasks and jobs will be automated and we will see another major retraining of the workforce.

Ivan has been a breath of fresh air in the cryptocurrency youtube space and have always appreciate his unbiased and objective opinion. :fist: It has been great to see the channel grow and more and more people finding it a trustworthy source.

Hope to have numerous meaningful conversations on this forum and add any value I can bring to the community

Hello everyone. I’ve been a fan of blockchain TECHNOLOGY since 2013 (not the get-rich quick infatuation). Ethereum has always captured my interest.

Looking forward to meeting people, getting inspired, and learning more about this cool stuff. If you’re in the Northern Bay Area and have an interesting project, hit me up.

Other places to find me:

  • StackOverflow: Anytime I start to think I’m Pretty Good at something, I go on SO and am quickly humbled.

  • My YouTube Channel I sometimes post to, mostly for my own entertainment.

Other Blockchain Things Of Interest:

It occurred to me that nobody had likely launched a currency named after their ex-wife. Being the technical pioneer that I am, I launched this Erc20 token on the Ethereum network (not RINKEBY!). I don’t know what to do with it yet, but it was fun and I learned in the process.

I have launched a couple other silly tokens. Here’s a video of me launching the Napa Coin with some strangers at a bar in an airport who watched with curious interest. I also made one called TwiceAWeek.

Non-Blockchain Interests:
Fitness
DadLife
Festivals
Trying to advance freedom with kickass jokes and incontestible reason.

hello Ivan and the lovely community!

I am Qiong, I am based in Shanghai, China at the moment. I started learn python and javascript by myself on some online website last summer. I also invested a bit in several crypto then but have no idea what it means at that time.
Two month ago I joined a Hackathon with some friends working on a project on sustainable agriculture, I learnt solidity in a rush time and wrote the first smart contract in my life. I know it must has some flaws, but as no one else know how to write an smart contract in my team… I feel proud of myself. And I got more interested in what I was doing for the smart contract and I wish to be an expert!
BTW I wish to move to Berlin for several years, hope to have more connections with you guys already there!

Short Circuit is a classic. Just had my son watch it for the first time a few months ago. You haven’t seen a six year old laugh until you’ve seen him watch a robot drive a Snack Shack Catering truck.

Hey there, I’m Akin from Los Angeles, CA. I started getting into crypto last year and find myself staying up late evenings to research projects. I’m a software engineer by trade for over 15 years. I look forward to writing a Dapp on the different blockchains. I’m especially interested in learning the nuances in different platform approaches as well as the general, basic software design architectures for a blockchain.

When I was younger, I was an avid soccer player (forward position). Recently stopped cause I’m getting aches and pain from it.
Also, I went to my first meetup for crypto (EOS) 2 months ago. I’m intrigued by how technology can and does transform lives in rural and urban societies all across the world.

I see technology (and it’s advancement) as a tool to improve our lives. Just like current takes the path of least resistance, once technology provides the tools with ease of use, adoption is sure to follow.
