I’m a native Texan - currently living in Irving, Texas (Dallas). I’m more interested in being interested instead of interesting.
I’m a computer ‘geek’ and have worked for several major corporations, including Conoco, Inc., Sprint, Communications Engineering Corp., Atlantis Trading Corp., The Immediate Resource, and others and have performed a wide variety of technical and management positions in the Telecommunications, Computer and Internet Technology industries.
I currently use GNU/Linux computer systems for most of my desktop and ‘server’ computers.
I’ve done quite a bit of Windows Server and Active Directory administration but I’m more of a Free Open Source Software advocate and developer, systems manager, and administrator. My favourite Linux distribution is Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu Linux.
I’ve also taught Middle School at Oak Crest private school in Carrollton, Texas and have completed advanced teaching courses with an organization called Applied Scholastics.
I have an Associates Degree in Electronics and an FCC Radiotelephone General Class License.
I also like to play Japanese Go, an ancient Oriental board game, at the Dallas Go Club every Thursday evening.
I’m an active proponent of human rights issues and also interested in teaching and education. I’m an avid reader and lifelong student - a perpetual neophyte (beginner).
I got into cryptocurrencies last October and it has been a wonderful learning experience! I haven’t done much programming in recent years but now I’m getting back into it and moving through several courses. I’m interested in C++, Java, Javascript, Python, Perl, PHP, and Haskell. I’m actively trading on Binance and other exchanges and with my Exodus and Jaxx wallets. Right now I’m a little ‘in the red’ but I am confident that the market will be ‘going to the moon’ this year!
Oh, yeah, and I’m an Eagle Scout, BSA. In times past I’ve been into fishing and camping and hiking but age is catching up to me.
I’m here to learn and apply what I learn and I’m very willing to help and be helped.
We have an opportunity here to help change the world for the better and I truly believe that depends on real education, not just ‘schooling’! It also depends on good communication and understanding, knowledge, and responsibility.
