Activity Lesson 2

Propose a change you could make to one of your habits, that would reduce your time preference from high (instant gratification) to low (delayed gratification) time preference. It could relate to any aspect of your life (financial, diet, exercise, relationships or education)

  • I can go to bed before midnight and get up 2h earlier. With those two extra hours per day you can learn some new language or read a book, depends on your preferences. Or you can exercise, study

I could use my bike instead of my car to get to work, so i can save some costs and keep me fit.

Reduce the amount of dopamine consumption by watching ā€œinterestingā€ youtube videos. give me a rest instead - to have more energy later on. Is the only bad habit I still have. I already worked on this for years. I don’t use social media or whatsapp. I lose time with conversations with people they just want to have a conversation for their needs or happiness. It’s their need to propagate their life, to share what is loading them. Better to enjoy more when meeting them in reality.

Here i would add some aspect of relation to relationships that i have to change. For example if anybody of my friends call me for some favor i immediately jump and go to resolve the problem which is not mine and i lose my precious time for others. Instead i should watch carefully and calculate what i have to do instead to give all my potential to others, and in a future time i would have more things done and i would have more time for myself . Probably i would also have more money. This is some psychological trigger that gives me the sense i am good person if i help somebody.

Use income from a part-time job to invest in and hold crypto.

My wife and I sometimes watch TV but spend a good 15 mins working out what to watch! Rather than switching on the TV in the first place if there’s nothing specific we want to watch I could read a book, learn something new or exercise

I could spend less time on work and more on meditation allowing me to be more productive.

I could not buy extra clothes and instead enjoy the clothes I have being more creative with combining them differently. I don’t NEED more clothes or shoes! I started this several months ago and it is really making a difference. Also, I can buy truly what I need and enjoy my learning at the academy. Filling my time with learning is definitely helping to curb spending activity!

I could take a new job, which would absorb a lot of my time, and pay a nice wage.
Or I could focus on this blockchain course. Which would be lead to a exponentially better source of satisfaction, and a good source of income. But I will have to patiently finish my studies. If I take a position with my current skills. The decrease in available study time would press me to make excuses to slack on my studies and delay my new skillset from maturing.

Well Ive already quit smoking so I wint use that one but I just started to randomly want to pay money to learn about new things that peaked my interest… That is why I am learning about blockchain and coding. I have done well in the past following my passions. Many I even get paid for from time to time including playing music and other hobbies.

If I am watching less tv shows and learning 30 minutes more each daysI could be ready to pass my moto driving licenses sooner.

I could definitely delay food gratification and drop some weight.

I could spend less time on the phone and the computer to pay more attention to my wife and kids.
I spend a lot of time in both because I“m studying or watching the charts and sometimes I lose the sense of time. I need to balance them.

  • I like the gratification from staying up late, but if I go to sleep earlier, it makes my next day more productive.

Reducing the frequency of eating out at restaurants instead of cooking healthy home cooked meals.

Instead of using all my free time in the evenings playing video games, I would rather reward myself with say, three hours of time to play for every course or module I complete.

My recent commitment has been to focus on building my education. I have a newborn who has just started sleeping  and my wife has been going to bed a lot earlier with him. This left me with a lot of free time in the late evenings, initially i was filling it with catching up on Netflix or watching YouTube but i have now swapped that for getting certification for my current career path and exploring certifications in things that interest me like the crypto space (using the IvanOnTech Academy).

I could set a timer/goal for work and once I hit that target I can spend some time leisurely instead of working for a little bit then enjoying myself and wasting time.

By no consuming television in weekdays, I will make more time for learning which will benefit my decision making in the short and long term.
