Well I wouldn’t say Bitmonero was successful, but it was the first after Bytecoin and it didn’t include a pre-mine like Bytecoin, which made it superior to Bytecoin. However, it’s thought that thankful_for_today was part of the Bytecoin team because of his early understanding of the technology. Monero was forked from Bitmonero by well-known members of the community to escape mysterious and untrustworthy leadership. All the forks coming after were not so endorsed by the community. It’s believed many coins were launched by the Bytecoin team as a scorched Earth strategy to hurt legitimate CryptoNote coins like XMR. - The post author leaves their Bitcoin address for donations. - Based on Section 7, “Layer after Layer’, Bitmonero/Monero was successful when other Bytecoin forks weren’t because Monero was taken back by the community. Monero is streets ahead, partly because of the way they’re developing the currency, but mostly because the “core devs” or whatever they’re called are made up of reasonably well-known people. That there are a bunch of them (6 or 7?) plus a bunch of other people contributing code means that they’re sanity checking each other.
