1. What is infura?
Infura is a set of tools that anyone can use to create applications that connect to the Ethereum blockchain.

2. Why do so many people use infura?
Because storing data on the blockchain is very expensive to do.
It can be complicated to connect to the Ethereum blockchain.
It is also slow to sync the blockchain.
And the Ethereum blockchain uses up a lot of space.

3. What are the flaws of having so many people using it?
This makes the Ethereum blockchain partially centralized. And makes it vulnerable to attacks by authority’s or third parties

4. What is the alternative to using Infura as a developer?
Running your own node.

ps. I think it’s better to ask these questions before making an account on infura at my playlist this comes after we’ve made an account on infura.

  1. What is infura?
A set of tools for anyone to create an application that connects to the Ethereum blockchain.
  2. Why do so many people use infura?
Infura essentially provides the necessary tools for any application to start developing on Ethereum immediately, without the need to run the complicated infrastructure themselves.
  3. What are the flaws of having so many people using it?
A lot of Ethereum-based applications rely on Infura to connect to the Ethereum blockchain and make transactions for their users. But Infura is a centralized service and is therefore vulnerable to attacks that may limit its functionality and it could be used to censor transactions by governments or third parties.
  4. What is the alternative to using Infura?
Until then, Infura is creating a giant on-ramp for people to use Ethereum. Until Ethereum becomes fast and easier to use, Infura’s position as a centralized guide is set to continue.

:one: What is infura?

Infura is a service which allows Ethereum developers to quickly and easily connect their projects to the Ethereum blockchain.

The set of tools Infura provides include running Ethereum nodes accessible by Infura users.
Infura also provide off-chain storage, which is allocated a hash and can be placed on the blockchain.

:two: Why do so many people use infura?

Infura is popular because they made what was traditionally an expensive and tiresome task quick and cheap (often free).

Instead of setting up an Ethereum node on your own, a developer can sign up for an Infura account, create a new project, export the generated Infura endpoint and place it into their Truffle project.

A developer can migrate their 'decentalised project onto a number of blockchains in less than 5 minutes with Infura.

:three: What are the flaws of having so many people using it?

Given that Infura is a centrally run company that routes a gigantic portion of the total Ethereum transactions on the network, it introduces an element of centralisation to a network which is ideally decentralised.

The centralised nature of the company means that should a government or authorised third party interfere with Infura activities, users (and the greater network) now have the opportunity to be adversely affected.

Management of Infura is obviously aware of the threat of centralisation.
Furthermore, the default assumption as to Infura’s values are not necessarily malicious.
The threat lies where a single entity holds such large market share over the activity of the Ethereum network, there’s an argument to be made against its decentralised nature.

:four: What is the alternative to using Infura?

In 2021, efficiency and cost-effectiveness is still important when migrating projects to public blockchains.
There are now more centralised services like Moralis :stuck_out_tongue: which will likely take some of Infura’s pie.
This is arguably a good thing for all parties on the network, including Infura.

With each additional centralised service/company entering the space to give developers the tools to go live, the networks gets exponentially more decentralised, meaning now if power corrupts within Infura, there are alternative means.

Eventually, developers and users will be able to run their own Ethereum nodes, and it might be easy to do so and develop and migrate quickly.
This utopian environment seems to be some years away, however.

What is infura?

  • A service that interacts with the Ethereum blockchain and runs nodes on behalf of its users.

Why do so many people use infura?

  • provide essential tools to start developing on Ethereum without the need to run the compilicated infrastructure themselves.

What are the flaws of having so many people using it?

  • The more users are using it, the more centralized using Ethereum will be. Thus, attacks and censorship can be focused on one central point.

What is the alternative to using Infura?

  • People hosting their own nodes.

With the current state of the course, it is worth noting, the reading assignment should be placed before the ‘Getting our Infura Key’ lecture. I suppose that was the intention, things got jumbled somehow.

What are the flaws of having so many people using it?
-> that centralize computazional operation in only one node, this wors speed and in some case stop entry of new transaction in block chain. and in simple more centrelazie is bad for block chain

What is the alternative to using Infura?
