How does a decentralized network increase security?
Decentralized network is a trust-less system which can not be bribed or hacked because the decentralized network relies on global unifying structure based on universal mathematical protocol. All parties within the decentralized network have a common incentive to work together through rewards to use a unifying common mathematical protocol standard which in-turn leads to a global unifying security.

Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
Users place their faith/trust within the central authority to act in the best interests of the users rather than for the benefit of the owner of the central authority/community.

Example; FaceBook (FB). Users allow FB to record & track friends and family activities on a global scale, but at the same time FB markets/sells access to user data by allowing 3rd party companies to track/record user transactions to improve targeting of paid advertisements which is in direct opposite to the users request for their data to remain private within their friends and family community/circle.

    It increases security because there is not a single point of failure. Consensus is determined by a large number of nodes having different vested interest. But they all share one common interest. They have to stay honest to be part of the network.

  2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security? When you have a central authority, there is a central point of failure. If that authority is hacked the whole content of the database can be altered. On a blockchain, the hacker would need to hack enough nodes to achieve consensus by itself (51% attack) which is orders of magnitude more demanding than hacking a single node.

A decentralized network has a higher level of security than a centralized network, since interrupting with the network becomes harder, since the power to determine what’s true and what’s false in a decentralized network requires consensus from more than one “peer”, as it is in a centralized network.

  2. Because you have no power to control their security, and because they have a bigger incentive to handle for their own benefit rather than yours. Also, when a central authority is in power, you are standing weaker than them. In a decentralized network everyone is equal, and messing with the network will punish you. It’s like living with a friend in a post apocalyptic situation; you have the key to the food storage and your friend has the key to the weapon storage. If you scam your friend, you’ll have no weapon to defend yourself. If your friend scams you, he’ll have no food. If he had both the food and the weapons, why wouldn’t he scam you, beside the fact that he’s your friend? When he realize his family is struggling, I bet you’ll be the one being sold off. Bizarre example, I know, lol. xD

Everyone uses the same standards and infrastructure which rely on maths and a (value) protocol which increases security.
A central authority can enter / manipulate what is authorised or not - which carries a risk of abuse / corruption / mismanagement.
