Homework on Security & Immutability - Questions

  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?

A decentralized network increases security because, although all of the data and transactions are stored on every computer on the blockchain, there is no central point of failure, and nothing can be tampered with, hacked, erased or changed. The information on the blockchain is immutable.

  1. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?

It’s dangerous to trust a central authority because having data stored in a centralized database is hackable, leading to sensitive or important data being lost. On top of that, we the citizens, have to trust the central authority to handle the data scrupulously and with integrity. Recent scandals involving tech behemoth Facebook saw colossal amounts of users’ personal information being sold to third parties without their knowledge.

A decentralized network increases security by requiring agreement among many nodes. If one or even multiple nodes tried to cheat, the others in the network would not allow the transaction. This acts to secure the network for all as you would need over half to agree to your nefarious plans.

Central authority allows an insider to determine transnational trust. Easily manipulated.

  1. By eliminating the chance of the authority being corrupt or accepting false information as true.
  2. Because the central authority can be bribed or bypassed and then the whole network will be vulnarable.

Decentralized network made up by math or protocol, this is the law of universe, is much more reliable than any organization, company… Data will not disappear, exist forever.
2¿ Central authority can manipulate data, even sell or share them with cooperation organizations or companies, or shut down. Also they could be hacked easily.

**1. How does a decentralized network increase security?**

It increases security because you are not trusting an organisation or a single party.
You trust the network and the algorithm of the blockchain which are not manipulable
or easily hacked. Also this can unite everyone in a single global infrastructure.

**2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?**

Because its not a blockchain based system or network were you have trusted parties or computer network deciding what is truth or fake. Also central authorities can be easily hacked or/and manipulated

  1. A descentralized network is more secure than a centralized one because she has a lot of ledger copies spread around the world.
  2. Because your data may not be safe in case of a cyber attack or they could sell your data.

1. How does a decentralized network increase security?
By hashing through an algorithm protocol, each node and miners will have the same list of rules to follow and play with, remember we are talking about a mathematical protocol solution and thanks to the immutability ability, meaning that once a data is recorded in the database, it cannot be change nor remove NEVER, since every node owns a valid copy of the database or ledger, when someone create a transaction (data insert request), multiple nodes will verify if the data structure from the transaction sender is valid with his historical data. Meaning, by not having the ability to change/modify/remove data from the database since once inserted is immutable, and the ability to reach consensus by multiple partners.

2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
Simple, you dont control the data you share about you. They can do whatever they want with the data u provide them since that data is stored in a central server owned by that central authority and not by you.

  1. By being global and storing database which is proven to be accurate and approved by many who are on the other end of their computer /internet.
  2. Trust must be earned and yet we haven’t seen any central authority who has won that trust fully. Especially when it comes to security it’s always open to misuse by the authority or third parties.
  1. A decentralized network works as a trust-less system. For instance; in a blockchain, every node of the block chain is provided the ledger of transactions and if 1 node goes rogue, the other nodes will deny it.

  2. A central authority has the ability to lie or change values of the system and artificially inflate or deflate the results.

  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?
It increases security on a global level by breaking down informational silos, where everyone builds on the same protocol/infrastructure, where transactions cannot be changed.

  2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
It is dangerous because instead of trusting the immutable network, you have to put your trust in 3rd parties/the org, which can be prone to unauthorised alterations & fraud.

  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?
It cant be hacked, changed or corrupted, nobody can acces your data
  2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
It can be hacked or they can acces to your data without your permiss.
  1. The idea in BC is that it is trustless unhackable secure data base therefore can be utilized to contain sensitive data.
  2. The intentions of central auothorities are always self prioritised obusing the self willing public’s sensitve data exposure
  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?
It runs on math and protocol. It verifies and authenticates. It is a trustless environment
  2. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
All the sensitive information lies with the central authority and we are left with no option other than trusting them
  1. A decentralized network is made up of many nodes which utilize consensus to update the ledger. This keeps all transactions verifiable and trust-less. Also it is very difficult to hack a decentralized network.
  2. A database that is authored be a central authority can be hacked more easily and/or corrupted by the author

  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?

By splitting information among a network of peers, so there can be no vulnerability point of attack like in a centralized network.

  1. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?

Because many times you need to trust them with sensitive information, but they have all their data on centralized servers, so it’s vulnerable to hackers. The more important the information the more trust you have to have in such a company.

I can’t believe only 314 people made it this far on ivan academy. A traditional network like Facebook doesn’t have the openess to be as a secure as blockchain technology. By being open and distributed security is maximised. Anyone is welcome to see the infrastructre and imrove it making commits. If everybody is using the same protocol, eg bitcoin protocol every is speaking the same language and so trust doesn’t have to be given to a central authority eg Facebook.

Centralised corporations are incentivised to sell you there database service and profit and proprietary code make this inefficent. They simply want to provide enough of a secure system so as to keep you a customer and stay out of big trouble. The system is not open so you have no idea what is happening or how secure your data is. If they lost your data it would be your fault for trusting a whack corporation instead of using decentralised networks.

  1. How does a decentralized network increase security?

No central authority, creating trustless environment. Multiple points of authentication.

  1. Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?

A central authority can much more easily be hacked or corrupted than the decentralised equivalent. There are many examples of personal data being sold, stolen etc from centralised databases.

How does a decentralized network increase security?
Through math and consensus, it becomes ‘trustless’ and secure. No single entity pulls the strings.

Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?
Greed, ignorance, avarice, mistakes, erroneous ambition…the fact you must trust someone or some company makes it less secure. Third party risk.

  1. No need to trust a third party. Blockchain cant be hacked. We are trusting math and protocol.
  2. They can manipulate data and are prone to hack attacks.
  • How does a decentralized increase security?
  • Why is it dangerous to trust a central authority for security?

1.Decentralize network increase security by taking away the central authority and Pacing it in the hands of the network so it cannot be compromised.
2.Because its in their benefit and not yours, your giving up control over your information “in the trust of”, trust yourself, trust math. A central authority can be hacked and your info stolen on a block chain its transparency.
