Assignment 2: Persuade your CEO to switch from Hyperledger (R3 Corda/Quorum) to Baseline Protocol

By implementing The Baseline Protocol the company would get a combination of the best suited features of both private and public blockchains which would better serve company needs.

  • Privacy on- and off-chain with transactions visible only to defined parties
  • Fast and scalable privacy computation
  • High performance - large number of transactions processed quickly and securely
  • Transparency focused B2C scenarios - e.g. customers’ track and trace on the blockchain
  • Privacy focused B2C scenarios - e.g.selected parties allowed in the company network

Subject: Proposal for Implementing Baseline Protocol in Our Ground Resource Management Software

Dear [Director’s Name],

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to propose the integration of the Baseline Protocol into our airport ground resource management software. This innovative approach, I believe, can significantly enhance our operational efficiency, security, and overall service quality.

1. Enhanced Security and Data Integrity:
The Baseline Protocol, leveraging the Ethereum Mainnet, offers a level of security and data integrity that is paramount for our operations. Given the sensitive nature of airport activities, from personnel access to aircraft maintenance, the protocol ensures that all data on the blockchain is tamper-proof and verifiable.

2. Improved Coordination Across Multiple Stakeholders:
Our software interfaces with a myriad of stakeholders, including various vendors, the FAA, and airline systems. The Baseline Protocol facilitates seamless and real-time coordination among these parties, ensuring that everyone is on the same page, thus reducing errors and improving response times.

3. Streamlined Supply Chain and Vendor Management:
The protocol’s ability to create a unified, transparent ledger is particularly beneficial for managing the complex supply chains we deal with. It allows for better tracking of parts, supplies, and equipment, ensuring efficient inventory management and procurement processes.

4. Compliance with Regulatory Standards:
Baseline Protocol’s privacy and security features align well with regulatory requirements, including those related to data protection. This compliance is crucial in maintaining our reputation and avoiding potential legal issues.

5. Cost-Effective Implementation:
Adopting the Baseline Protocol can be a cost-effective solution. It reduces the need for extensive infrastructure changes, as it can be integrated with our existing systems. This minimizes both the implementation costs and the disruption to ongoing operations.

6. Keeping Pace with Technological Advancements:
Incorporating the Baseline Protocol positions us at the forefront of technological innovation in our industry. It demonstrates our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve our services and efficiency.

I recommend that we conduct a detailed feasibility study to explore the specific applications of the Baseline Protocol in our operations. This study would provide us with a clear roadmap for implementation and a better understanding of the potential return on investment.

Thank you for considering this proposal. I am confident that the Baseline Protocol can significantly enhance our software’s capabilities and set a new standard in airport ground resource management.

Sincerely,

Hi,

I am writing because I believe that to take our organization to the next stage of expansion and rip the benefits that are promised by blockchain we need to pivot our approach away from working on Hyperledger with IBM.

The TRADELENS project was very successful, initially that is. We didn’t however succeed in making our competitors work with us on what could be a boon for the entire sector. Because the implementation is private and the entire protocol is based on what we developed with IBM, we couldn’t gain the trust of others.

A blockchain, a decentralized protocol, for our sector, cannot be piggy backed by one of the “market leaders” in tech. Connecting to Tradelens, means, for SAP, giving a formidable competitive edge to a competitor they have worked hard to replace and still hope to completely shut down in the foreseeable future.

In addition, as we have proven by shutting it down, a private blockchain is as strong as the will of some of the founding members. Couple that with the fact that we operate in a volatile market where volatility is a given, you understand why we failed.

I believe that using a public, open source protocol, that plugs into the existing software deployed at our competitors (and in house), backed by a public mainnet, gives all the promises we were missing: nobody in particular benefits, just the network.

As for the needs of a private blockchain, Baseline meets them all, promising Privacy, permissioned transactions and even implementation flexibility.
