Activity Lesson 1

As a child, i used to change football cards and marbles. Since i was trading the same kind of item, it was in fact a fair exchange.

In my childhood I used to exchange marbles (my less favorites) for candy or even some other marbles, more than two of mine for only one from the other because it was nicer. I think they were good deals because I was at the end satisfied because of the exchange made.

When i was at school i had some melting moment biscuits that my Mum made and i was given them to share around to my classmates. Becuase they were delicious and sort after i traded the biscuits for various other food items and stationary that i needed. On one particular trade i gave 5 of my biscuits for a mates lunchbox as it had one of my favourite comic book characters on it.

I believe the trade worked out in my favour as i received an item that i would get many uses out of, whereas my friend with the 5 biscuits would only have momentary satisfaction from the trade.

at elementary school we were trading with all kinds of stickers. Of course the cutest and shiniest ones were the most popular ones. however, when the other child wanted two or three normal ones for a single (although particular) one and I accepted, in the moment of the trade I felt happy but afterwards sometimes I regret it, since now i had less stickers to trade with and there was no guarantee i could find another child ready to give me 2 or 3 normal stickers for my particular one.

I had a couple of barter transactions in my young days, but the one I have my strongest memory from is from my gaming years. I traded my Nintendo 64 game: Goldeneye 007, for Zelda - Ocarina of time. Two good games but an even greater trade.
I miss those times =)

I don’t really remember much but I know that my two sisters and I were trading small rocks with strangers for money(a few cents), we were also selling some toys that we probably didn’t use and drawings that we made.

I wouldn’t say it was fair trade when sold the rocks because we could find rocks everywhere, the adults were sometimes buying it because we were children. I would say it was almost the same with the toys and the drawings but it was at least something that had a little bit more value than rocks.

“Describe a barter transaction that you’ve been a part either as a child or adult. List the two items in the barter transaction and, looking back, did you think it was a fair exchange and why?”

A sandwich against a cup of coffee in the school. I was really tired and not hungry and my friend had a newly bought cup of hot coffee. He was willing to trade it for the sandwich because he was hungry.

I think it was a fair exchange and the items had different values to us. Because I was really tired and needed to be more energized to be able to participant in the class, and he was really hungry and needed the sandwich for the same reason. A trade where both parties were happy with the exchange.

when i was little i remember trading soccer cards . it was so much fun. i think it was pretty fair since we were both trading a card that we had 2 of for a card that we didnt have so it seems pretty fair to me.

As a child I bartered a pencil for a baseball card. As far as fair exchange i think it was because we both were ok to trade on for the other item. As far as value it may be less fair considering the value of one vs the other. As an adult I do not barter much but the closest thing, would be a job. Where I trade my time and labor for paper money.

My friends and I would trade playstation games and movies CDs so we did not get bored of them.

Im a musician and There Its normal to trade services between other musicians. Sometimes the Fiat cost may But There are other aspects like timing of the need. Maybe who the customer wants to work with, etc.

I offered one time performing in the studio in Exchange for a website. This was fair because he needed my services on some songs that needed to be released soon and i need a website fast.

For 15 years ago, I trade a service to a small company, my first client, I was a video editor and instead of money, he gave me a photo and film camera so my business can scale instead of a salary, and avoid rent a camera for future gigs. also for tax reasons it was more valuable to me to get pay that way.
I still have that camera.

I once tried to exchange a toy for an other one with a kid…
We were both happy and agreed to do the transaction but his father didnt allowed it.
The experience kid of gave me a sense of the lack of freedom as a kid and the intrinsic value of stuff.

It was Candy against Chocolate.
At the beginning both of us were satisfied, but after a while, both of us were not satisfied and accuse each other will non fair exchange behavior.

When I was a child, my brother and I used to collect soccer player cards that came inside exclusive magazines. We got to a point that we collected so many cards that some of them were doubles; so we decided to trade the cards we had doubles of for the ones we didn’t have.

Marbles! As kids we traded marbles. We would haggle as to what was fair in the exchange. Wether it was fair to anyone else didn’t matter. When you walked away happy with the exchange, then it was all good and fair. The simple days… :slightly_smiling_face:

I actually barter on a regular basis. I raise chickens and trade them constantly for things like feed or vegetables or medicine. Last time I traded chickens for feed.I get a fair deal on that trade but some of my past barter trades have not felt as fair.

My husband and I are hobby Beekeepers and we love our bees. Often we give a jar of honey as gifts to family and friends and talk about how healthy and well-looked after our bees are. We explain that our honey is organic and can be used for medicinal purposes. One elderly gentleman that we know is into organically grown food and loves his gardening. He brought in some salad and lemons from his garden in exchange for our honey. In my mind I did try and calculate the value of the exchange in dollars and cents (?!?). In the end I was definitely satisfied with the exchange when I started eating the salad because it tasted so much better than what we buy from the store.
