The state of DeFi | DeFi Ecosystem - Discussion

I was checking out some of the video’s from the defi Summit/Event and one in particular brought up a question (to anyone who could answer). When talking about key management and decentralized solutions, the topic closed on the convenient use of Tangem Wallet/Card. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with Arculus and if their card operated in the same way. Thanks!

i don’t know if it counts, but i’m really into prediction markets recently, not just augur or hypermind, but non-blockchain ones too.
nonetheless, i like that fact that blockchain markets have prediction data that can’t be faked at all, afaict; no one can go in and change predictions or anything like that, hwich makes this one of the first “social agreement” mechanisms at which sociologists can point and say “hard data on what society thinks.” it’s not complete, but it’s a source that’s difficult to fake and thus carries EPISTEMIC VALUE.

getting through all of the reading material here takes me AGES! i’m pretty sure it’s worth it, but wow, just like a month per class of amadeo’s…

How much have people been looking into the Avalanche ecosystem’s defi? Personally liquidity farming quite a bit there since the gas fees are far cheaper.

I noticed that most of the lectures and data in this course are from 2020. With it now being 2022 as I’ve embarked on the studies of DeFi 201, I must say it’s both fascinating and exciting to see how much growth the DeFi space has had already. Both the TVL and value of smart contract platforms on Ethereum have seen parabolic growth since 2020, with the TVL growing almost 84x and Ethereum smart contract platform’s value 20x since the creation of this course.

As a curious student who found great interest in the DeFi 101 course, I’m even more intrigued to take a deeper dive into not only the development of projects mentioned in the DeFi Ecosystem Overview, but also projects relating to things like payments and market analytics. The adoption of Web 3 has opened up so many new opportunities for various projects and communities to build on top of old ideas and perfect them. The Flexa payment network, for example, caught my eye while searching for new DeFi expansion-related tokens when I came across the AMP token on CoinMarketCap (used as collateral to make payments on Flexa secure and safely liquidated). In addition, I’m eager to see how analytics can be further improved in DeFi with connection to oracles. As mentioned so far in the course, this space has seen much improvement with it still being much further to go. Can DeFi say that even today there isn’t a possibility for another Black Thursday event? How quickly have improvements been made to things such as oracle update projects in DeFi analytics, for example, to prevent these events from happening again?

Thank you @amadeobrands for this lessons, it was very interesting to learn what actually happened and I have a lot to read during the next few days. In general, I think it is not good what happened, but on the other side it is actually good, because it made DeFi ecosystem stronger, there was action from decentralized government and community and when we look now at the statistics in 2022, we can see that TVL is today is 75B, which is amazing. Great lecture!

the state of DeFi,
i started in the concept of DeFi after the black friday of 2020; and when I read and heard about the extreme gas fees, Eth miners manipulating the price or gas fees; so I didn’t use the Ethereum network to invest ,participate on yield, etc So I completely avoid it. @amadeobrands thanks for the education process of ETH and it’s DeFi ecosystem and specially how Maker works and the Curve wars;
however I explored other DeFi specially that gas fees are less expensive and with very juicy yields but i was learning through the process and they use discord, medium and other type of info to spread the whitepapers:
although i started to learn first about Cardano for some reason but still in June2022 stil there is not alot of defi projects launched in 2022
in Binance network (more centralized) and pancake swap ( i saw bunch of copies)
in Fantom: spookyswap, and tomb.finance
in Avalanche: traderjoe, bifi.finance
in Elrond: maiar.exchange
Solana: raydium, i like aldrin.com as a DEX/defi has great features but is Proof of History!
mostly I have noticed that all these defi projects follow the same concept of Maker DAO or the initial finance principles that you have explained; this other chains to survive need better innovation

now the homework: (although i am not sure how the everest.link website is updated);
we need less fake news, better transparency in the journalism, and less tv anchors supported by the mainstream media.
there should be a L2; that would support better independent journalism to promote to write honest content and paid tokens; the idea of a new way to journalism is that the publication can be voted for good content, reduce marketing content ; reduce or nullify access to your data and incentivize journalist for honest reporting; unfortunately I couldn’t find a project related but found a good article about the The rise of computational propaganda and the ‘ weaponisation of mistrust
Journalism + Blockchain: Possible solution for an industry crisis?

the image shows an example of Press Freedom; although coming from Forbes might be suspicious.

After:

  • reading the article about BlackRock takes command to clean toxic assets since 2008 (not public elected)
  • listening the hearing of Jerome Powell on how to control/create inflation and some opinions says he is the most powerful man (not public elected)
  • or knowing that any president in the US with a expanded military army all over the world, dollar currency adoption worldwide and lot of transnationals based in this country - Joe Biden // also Putin or Xi Jinping are in the top

Who is the most powerful “middleman” in the world right now? :muscle:

  • Larry Fink (BlackRock CEO)
  • Jerome Powell (FED chair)
  • Most Powerful President in the World (now J Biden)
