Tari - Reading

  1. Tari protocol is a sidechain of Monero. Monero is a promoter of privacy, people using Tari will be using Monero by default without them knowing.

  2. Digital asset is anything that comes in a digital format and comes with the right to use. in relation to “DRM” they come in event ticket for concerts, crypto-native, in-game items. People could use tokens to purchase such items.

    It is architected as a merge-mined sidechain with Monero and is devloped by Riccardo “fluffypony” Spangi who is also a developer of Monero.

    Digital assets are things that people can buy or earn but exist entirely in digital form for their lifecycle. These things can be, loyalty points, in-game currencies, collectibles, STOs, software licenses.

    Instead of “going door to door” and be rejected by people for asking if they need more privacy, because they think they don’t need it, people need to be “tricked” into using privacy-enhancing tools, like Monero.

  1. Tari is created by Fufflypony and a few others from the Monero Team. Tari spends time and money on helping to support the Monero environment as well.
  2. A digital Asset is an asset such as art, short clips, music, movies that exist digitally but not physically.
  3. They need to trick people into privacy by getting them to just use Tari which as a sideeffect will give them privacy.
  4. They don’t want others to know how much they are making through licensing and Tari will allow that. Through Tari they can set rules that stipulate how much they get in exchange while keeping their cut private.

They are assets that live their life digitally from start to finish are digital and always will be, doesn’t live in physical form. Assets on Tari would be permanently on the Blockchain so if a company removes a website or goes into administration you will always have access to them.

How are digital assets connected to DRM (digital rights management)?

Creators of digital assets will be able to issue them as programmable non-fungible tokens on the Tari blockchain and trust that their rules will be enforced. Rules may be economic in nature (e.g. X% fee every time a given asset is transferred), time-based (e.g. A given asset can only be transferred X days after receipt) or something else entirely. Our goal is to architect Tari in a manner that gives asset issuers meaningful flexibility with the rulesets they create for their digital assets.

. It is implemented as a Monero side chain.

. By nature, digital content can be copied easily. So we need a way to restrict creators content so that they are rewarded for their work (DRM). A digital asset is basically content. The goal of DRM is to restrict access to this content in a custom way.

. Instead of proposing privacy, Tari sneakily introduces privacy features to the user, without him knowing(although without hiding it). The philosophy behind this approach is that users don’t care at first about privacy. They only care when they need it, when it is generally too late. Thus, we need to make the users adopt privacy at the fore front, not as a need basis.

. First, it makes digital content economically viable by restricting its access, rewarding creators for their work, thus incentivizing more content creation. But instead of creating its own DRM ecosystem, or trusting a DRM provider, a copyright holder can use Tari, which is trust less and already working.

Digitial assets are essentially NFTs. Having a software license or rights to a song could be minted as NFTs and traded.

He wants to create a platform which is widely adopted by people, where privacy is built in. This is a different approach from trying to get people concerned about privacy first.

They can create, mint and sell NFTs related to their products. They can transact on a public blockchain as a business without having to be concerned that their competitors can monitor their business transactions through the blockchain.
