- Blockchain enables digital provenance to record the supply chain throughout the network thus providing transparency. The data collected can only be added and can not be erased which prevents override or loss of information - trustless.
- A centralized database uses client/server architecture where one or more client nodes are directly connected to a central server, therefore failure of the components will cause the entire system to break down. Additionally, this data is kept private and controlled by one entity, thus allowing manipulation.
- Digital provenance provides the possibility of real-time auditing and accurate immutability traceability.
