Voting for adds or user get tokens for watching ads which he can use in a ecosystem - Content
Users can votes which content is acceptable and which not. by participating they can get rewards - Source of Videos
To avoid copycats the information of a video will be stored on the blockchain to proof the owner of the video
Provide a way to monetize content creators through tokens. We could also add a gamification layer through NFTs
Exercise Assignment: YouTube
Well I wasnāt too familiar in how the YouTube client process worked, but I reviewed a friends particular case which gave me some understanding. I think I would implement a Hyperledger on their 3rd party, client and platform ad transactions. Sponsors pay client to run their ad on client videos. Hyperledger can make a transparency in auditing and dispersement of payment, including security protocol. Hacking YouTube seems to be common.
Hybrid Blockchain Implementation for a Video Platform
-
Centralized
For reasons of performance and cost efficiency Iād put the video content onto some centralized infrastructure. -
Decentralized
All metadata pertaining to the content, its creator, its consumers and its advertisers/sponsors should live on a distributed public ledger to keep it transparent and censorship resistant. Views, comments, likes , etc. can thus be used to build an incentive/monetization model on top. The platform itself would thus be disincentivized to (shadow) ban or censor its contributors and through that provide an attractive business model to creators.
- Problem summary:
- central control over advertisements, monitisation, uploads and dowbloads.
As we have seen with YouTube over the years content creators can be denied superchats, ad revenue, they can be blocked from uploading new videos and their videos and channels can be deleted centrally.
- Solution:
- Put the whole thing on blockchain, weāll need to get around the video size thing? I think LBRY managed to do this but Iām not sure how.
- create a network of tokens. Advertisers will give creators a set amount of these tokens for ads- we can link this to viewcount.
Users can use these tokens to award creators they like, similar to superchats.
We might need to limit or tether the tokens to ensure they have value, this will drive the whole system.
Some advertisers will not want to advertise on politically charged or edgy content. So have a tier system that will give advertisers a choice.
-
Mundane easy to digest material.

-
Very edgy, controversial content.
Lets supply and demand determine the amount payable by an advertiser, therefore unpopular content might make you less money?
Creators will have a safer income stream and videos cannot be removed. Most popular conent will be most rewarded.
-
Award tokens for content creators for promoting and using the network.
-
Governance are made of by the community
-
Layer the blockchain on-top of the centralised platform
-
Shield ads or reward for exposure
-
Connect followers/audience through a second layer solution
-
community can rate a platform on a daily, quarterly or annual basis
Problem: existing video sharing sites have centralized control of content and itās visibility on the platform. This is a high risk scenario for content creators because the availability and visibility of the content they produce is how they make money. DTube has been one solution but users have run into some problems with uploading videos and content longevity on the network. The DTube original approach was to put everything on the blockchain. What might be a better way to do this?
The most important thing with content creators is being able to connect with their fans. Content creators could be nodes that store their own content which would remove the need for centralized storage. The likes, shares and other information could be stored on the blockchain.
My idea would be:
- Create a decentralized governance to decide on platform changes and management decitions
- Decentralized all metadata on a blockchain regarding video information , users , followers , etc)
- Create a decentralized token , where users earn by watching videos and send tips to creators also on that token, so that both as incentivised
- Centralized servers to store the pure video content, so that it has faster access and better performance.
This content cannot be removed or prohibited by anyone , only the content creator.
By the way , thanks a lot for the course
I still like the idea of a decenteralized platform and the inability to be cencered so i think keeping all user data on the blockchain and even the payment processing side of the platform could be place in a blockchain. Putting the videos into a centeralized enviroment to handle large data needs is also something i would consider.
I like the idea of using the defi building blocks, taking the best of decentralization and security. Have a public ledger but make the identifiers/users anonomous.
I would say that the essentials would be the metadata, data of each user, data related to the materials of each channel, such as likes, views and monetization. The content itself could be distributed outside the blockchain in something like IPFS.
There is already a very good solution to this problem. LBRY. They didnāt choose to put everything on the blockchain, just the essentials.
I agree with others that a decentralized platform would be ideal for video sharing. A platform that has established fair terms of use with regard to video content (no porn, etc), and no censorship like we have seen recently with other video sharing sites. Iām not familiar with how the other video sharing sites work using a blockchain, but feel it would be ideal for payments to content creators within this ecosystem to be made over a blockchain.
Okay, here we go. A few years before all the restrictions of youtube is wash an owner off a big youtube channel in my country. When all the restrictions came it became a lot less interesting to do that kind of job.
The reasons that all the restrictions start wash the pressure from the big companies. The big companies saw that their brands were linked to villains and hate. Because their commercials where show before such kind of videoās or after.
To make youtube great again. No No not America. i mean youtube haha They have to decentralize a part of the advertising on youtube. You can of course not decentralize how much they have to pay because then they will pay nothing butt the rest should be.
To completely decentralize the video library is impossible like you said in the example and that is clear butt I do think that the community should be able to decide what kind off content is allowed on the platform and whatnot. Not Google or other big companies.
Hello Toshi times IOT academy forum family.
I believe that there probably isnāt a silver bullet for this problem, but I would definitely start with censorship resistant. I think LBRY has already incorporated this but it is in a way thats just cataloging your content and not really monetizing it. I think thats why they started odysee for that purpose.
Another thing I think I would do is incorporate some sort of profit sharing feature where the creator and the consumer both are paid, attention is the number one commodity in the world and there is obviously no content without the creator. I am sure there are platforms like this, dlive kind of has this with the chest feature, but nothing that is scalable to combat youtube in my opinion.
I think the issue is youtube is so heavily intertwined with google and their ad system that its going to be very difficult to ever get to the monetization capability of that platform. So maybe you incorporate a subscription idea and the more you engage the less you pay a month and also get more rewards. We all know we buy subscriptions we never use so I am sure the creators will get paid well also lol
But I do think it would be difficult to have the consumers and the creators rewarded evenly so there will always be a give and take.
Maybe each video or whatever content you are creating can be automatically created into an NFT so that you can make it something that is scarce or widely available and charge whatever you like as the creator, and then create a secondary market for whoever purchases these assets to buy and sell them, that way the people engaging in the content and consuming have more skin in the game and can create more hype and traffic for the creator as well?
Hey I am just a young blockchain apprentice what do I know
I would use a user pays model where users would connect a crypto wallet to the service. I would Intergrate a wallet that allows micro payments for watching content advert free, perhaps and option to be paid for watching adverts. Video would be stored centrally to save space and provide a faster user expierence.
Having used Steemit in the past and registering with lbry. In my opinion there really isnāt a good solution for uploading videos to blockchain platforms. Theyāre too slow and with lbry you need the tokens before uploading. The average content creator isnāt going to be bothered with that, the only people crazy enough to do so are people like us that are interested in the blockchain space.
Okay so here is my solution:
-
Storage should be definitelly centralized - it would be impossible to have decentralized database, because video files are so large.
-
Searching mechanism would then run on centralized database ā which would be quick.
-
There would also be a blockchain, which would store the hashes of videos, views, likes and comments ā because of monetization (explained in next step).
-
Monetization would run on this blockchain. Users could get rewards for sharing content and getting views, likes and comments in form of tokens which they could sell for fiat or cryptocurrencies on exchanges. Also users who make comments on somebody elseās video can get this reward when receiving likes or replies for this comment. I can imagine this could also work on smart contract ā for example when you get a certain amount of likes you get a reward ā all of this specified in smart contract. Therefore you can trust a technology and not a central authority.
-
It would be permissioned blockchain: if you would like to join the network then you automaticaly get a permission to upload, watch, like and comment public videos. You would also have a permission to upload a private video and give permission to other user to watch your private video.
-
However we have to take into account that videos themselves together with hashes are stored on central database and somebody has to take care of this. Therefore there would be a small fee from every blockchain reward to this central authority. And possibly some smart contract which would fee him if he manipulates the data. Which complicates things. However if we make even this part about storage decentralized, then it would be VERY VERY slow and in this case there has to be some trade off.
Hi
Here are my thoughts regarding a YouTube type of service:
On the Blockchain:
- Create a Proof Of Stake Cryptocurrency and use the Blockchain to track it.
- Set up an ad revenue sharing and save views min and crypto payments/transactions on the blockchain.
- Set up an option for donations and paid content. Manage the payments and revenue via the blockchain
Decentralized Storage:
- Store all of the video files, sound files and other content that is shared on a decentralized storage similar to filecoin.io or storj.io
- set up a to build the user interface for web and smart phone using the decentralized storage.
- create an app for web and smart phone to give access to a wallet for buying, selling, trading, the crypto created by this project.
I am not sure why a video-sharing platform needs to be put on a blockchain, maybe just the monetization and somehow the API.
-
Content creators and viewers earn tokens by the number of views. Users can also earn tokens by other types of interactions like following, likes, comments. So every video is monetized.
-
Advertizers pay with tokens and earn tokens.
-
Based on the tokens earned everybody can grow to earn governance tokens and get involved in decision making.
There are too many unknowns for me here, but decentralization would solve the shadowbanning and demonetization problems. Hopefully, similar ideas can apply to social media platforms soon.
To Avoid
Uploading and Storing Video content on the blockchain would not be ideal due to the large files.
Possible Solution
Monetization using Tokens or a sort of āBrave Browserā which is exclusive for the site using ledger technology so you can assign different roles and earn different rewards in terms of each individual.
