Homework: Relay chain, Parachains and Parathreads

What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?

A Parachain is an application specific datastructure that is globally coherent and validatable by the validators of the Relay chain.
Parathreads are like Parachains but do not have a permanent slot in the Relay chain.

What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?

The Relay chain connects all Parachains and Parathreads and also provides a secure way for them to communicate with the rest of the network.

  1. What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?

Different projects/blockchains compete with each other for a slot/parachain in the polkadot network. Once all slots are filled the fun part begins.

Parachains are blockchains connected to the relay chain which is the heart of Polkadot network.
Parachains are different blockchains that operate in parallel to the relay chain. The parachains can communicate and message between each other making it more interoperable, share data, share info etc.

Parachains have a dedicated slot for their chains with full security, instant connectivity and full throughput.

Parathreads share slots among the group, full security, instant connectivity but a partial volume.

Both have the same API but the difference is the economics. Parathreads will pay on a block per block basis. Parachains can become parathreads and vice versa.

When parachains retire they just retire into parathreads and still continue processing transactions and continue doing what they did but they just have to pay their way now. PAYG - pay as you go. So in essence, the retire is much more graceful.
They have the same benefits for connecting to the Polkadot network that a full parachain has.

  1. What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?

Parachains bridges that can also be formed as parathreads connects to the relay chain. It’s mainly used for consensus, security, staking and governance etc. The relay chain is the heart of polkadot network that secures a way of communication between the different blockchains connected to the relay chain.

1:) A parachain is an application-specific data structure that is globally coherent and validatable by the validators of the Relay Chain. Most commonly a parachain will take the form of a blockchain, but there is no specific need for them to be actual blockchains. Parathreads are an idea for parachains to temporarily participate (on a block by block basis) in Polkadot security without needing to lease a dedicated parachain slot. This is done through economically sharing the scarce resource of a parachain slot among a number of competing resources

2:)The Relay Chain is the central chain of Polkadot. All validators of Polkadot are staked on the Relay Chain. The Relay Chain has minimal functionality and its main responsibility is to coordinate the system as a whole, including parachains. Parachains and parathtreads connect to the relay chain through slots and thereby share in the security afforded by the relay chain. The Relay Chain also allows communication between parachains

  1. Parachains are parallel blockchains that leases a slot (enterance) of their own to connect to the Relaychain.
Parathreads are an idea for a Parachain to temporary participate in Polkadot security. They are smaller and don’t need a full slot, kind of pay n play, and still have the same benefits as a full Parachain on Polkadot.

  2. Relaychain is the main core of Polkadot and allows interactions and processing, messages, tx or any sort of data with other chains on the Polkadot network

  1. Parachains are layer 1 blockchains that run in parallel on top of the Relay chain (layer 0). Because they are all connected, they share and benefit the security and scalability, and allowing them to share data cross-chain. Currently, Polkadot can support up to 100 parachains. On the other hand, Parathreads are temporary network that implements pay-as-you-go model rather than securing permanent slot.

  2. Relay chain is the central part of Polkadot and it is responsible to secure the network’s shared security and cross-chain interoperability.

1. What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?
Parachains are fully-dedicated slots in Polkadot network that are app-specific - basically, custom blockchains. These require the lease of a parachain slot. There are many parachains running parallel to each other that all connect to the “relay chain”… which allows simulatenous transaction processing – opening scalability.

Parathreads operate exactly the same as a parachain, but without requiring the full lease of a parachain slot. The use of parathreads would be to temporarily participate on the Polkadot thread while just paying an associated fee on a block-per-block execution basis. Parathreads share the scarce asset of a full parachain amongst each other. Projects using a parathread are not big/robust enough to require the use and lease of a full parachain

2. What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?
Relay chains are the central chain of the Polkadot system. Parachains and parathreads all connect INTO this relay chain, which allows each individual parachain/parathread to execute their transactions simultaneously – aka avoiding congestion and increasing scalability. There is a generic function involved, using modular frameworks like FRAME and Substrate on the relay chain that all parachains/parathreads use, which allows for interoperability between each unique parachain/thread - allowing them to talk to each other. Specific smart contract work is dedicated to parachains, while the work of the relay chain is actually very simple - coordinate (interoperability), validate (shared security) and consensus.

What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?

Parachains are other blockchains on the polkadot chain who are directly connecred to the main chain of polkadot.
In other words Parachains are like many wheels which are connected with the motherwheel
And one thing as an addition they are only connected temporary. When a project win a slot in the auctions they will be connected
for a predefined timespan

What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?

A Relay chain is the core chain of DOT. This means that every PARACHAIN is connected to the Polkadot Relay Chain

1. What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?

Parachains are parallele blockchains working and connected to Polkadot, which ensure a great scalability. To become a parachain a project need to be allocated a slot through raising DOT. They are all running at the same time and connected to the relay chain. It is shared security with all the network

Parathreads are like parachain but do not need to lease a complete slot. Start up can use them if they are not big enough to test their project before moving to a parachain.

2. What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?
Relay chain is the main system of the polkadot blockchain. Both parachain and parathread are connected to it and can run transaction at the same time. It avoid the congestion of the network and improve the scalability.it is used with a javascript framework and Substrate. Interroperability works between para chain and parathread and both are enabled to use shared security of polkadot.

  2. The Relay Chain is the central chain of Polkadot. Polkadot validators are staked on the Relay Chain in DOT. The Relay Chain is composed of a relatively small number of transaction types that include ways to interact with the governance mechanism, parachain auctions, and participating in NPoS. The Relay Chain has deliberately minimal functionality - for instance, smart contracts are not supported. The main responsibility is to coordinate the system as a whole, including parachains. Other specific work is delegated to the parachains, which have different implementations and features.

  1. Parachains are essentially blockchains that exist on the Polkadot network. They are linked to a central Relay Chain, allowing for scalability and interoperability.
In terms of functionality, parathreads and parachains are very similar. The main difference is that parathreads are not subject to bidding. Instead, they use the Relay Chain as needed. A parachain is paid for the amount of time it is connected to the chain. The decision between parachain and parathread is based on the type of project you’re working on and the amount of money you have.

  2. Relaychain is base or layer 0 blockchain that provides connecting and functioning of parachains and parathreads on top of it.

1-Parachains are individual blockchains that run in parallel within the Kusama ecosystem and parathreads are like applications that are on disk and can be copied into memory when needed.

2- The Relay chain is the source of the network’s shared security and consensus and facilitates cross-chain interoperability. Parachains and Parathreads can connect with the Relay chain via dedicated slots cause they work in parallel.

  1. What are Parachains and what are Parathreads?
PARACHAINS: Parachains are sharded blockhains which run in parallel with the relay chain. Parachains inherit and share the security of the relay chain. Parachains are use-case agnostic. They are secured through dedicated slots which are obtained through auctions. It is an expensive operation.

PARATHREADS: Parathreads are the same as parachains - the main distinction is that parathreads do not have dedicated slots - they also follow a subscription model which is priced on a block-by-block basis.

PARATHREADS:
2. What is a Relay chain and how do Parachains/Parathreads relate to the Relay chain?

Relay chains form the core functionality of the overall blockchain networks. They facilitate parallel processing so that all transactions may be processed at the same time. Parachains that are connected to the relay chain are able to make use of secure cross chain messaging protocol to share data.

  1. Parachains and Parathreads are chains connected to the Polkadot Relay Chain, having very similar structure, being their difference mainly the lease model - the first running nonstop, having a dedicated slot exclusively for its use during the whole lease time after winning an auction, and delegating DOT for that; while the last pay per block time while using the Polkadot network resources as a part-time chain.
  2. TheRelay chain in the ‘corel’ chain powered by DOT, concentrating the security and governance of the DPoS network, and connects, secures and process transactions from the parachains and parathreads attached to it.
