Data Location Assignment

My solution to the assignment, change ‘memory’ to ‘storage’ inside the update balance function:

I just changed the memory for storage because if we use memory it will be erased once the function is done.

There are a number of ways to solve this. The problem is the combination of the function scope lifetime of the temporary (memory) User instance created in the updateBalance function and the fact that this object is never assigned back to the persistent mapping (state variable at the contract scope).

One solution would be to directly update the balance member in the persistent users mapping but as we have a lovely addUser function that assigns a new User instance to this mapping already, I leveraged this abstraction and simply called that function to delegate that task.

I’ve updated the ‘updateBalance’ method, to directly write to storage:

We have to locate the updateBalance data in “storage” instead of “memory”.

I did the same thing. It seemed like the simplest thing to do and I’m surprised that it’s only the 6th answer I’ve read instead of the first 6.

Balance is unable to update because MEMORY is temporary storage. updateBalance will only update if the user ID is stored in STORAGE to enable a transaction to take place to that users account.

The problem is that the updateBalance function is not writing to storage. There are several working solutions. I think this is simplest, maybe not the most efficient.

I changed the user to not be in memory, but to be the actual user
