What issues are they aiming to solve with this blockchain system?

Sharing consistent data across multiple parties; Accelerate and simplify transactions

What type of insurance are they targeting for this solution?

Professional indemnity and property

How do they manage to disperse payments through the blockchain?

They disperse payment by authorizing Allianz to approve payments, which are made via Citi’s CitiConnect API

Why is the blockchains processing speed not an issue for this application?

Data accuracy and availability is the key point so speed is not an issue; The adoption of blockchain centralizes the data into a common, immutable repository

  1. The issues they are aiming to solve with the blockchain system are the streamlining of international insurance transactions, namely:

    • Annual Policy Renewals,
    • Premium Payments, and
    • Claims submission and settlement.
  2. With the blockchain solution, they are targeting professional indemnity and property insurance.

  3. The insurers blockchain connects to a Citi API. The blockchain will send instructions and payments can be disperse from there in US dollars, for the prototype.

  4. Since insurance payments are not a mission-critical activity with limited time constraints, a reduction in performance and efficiency is acceptable. The flow of information had always been the bottleneck, not the speed of the transactions. The bottleneck of information flow has been solved with the blockchain solution.

at three common process flows in the insurance cycle:

    • annual policies renewals,
    • premium payments,
    • claim submission & settlement
  3. Automated processing replaces the exchange of thousands of emails & massive data files.
Blockchain manages complexity of data & their communication.
Blockchain collects & connects insurance data regarding the customers & the type of insurance to
e.g. pay out what custumers are entitled to at the due time through an specifically developed use-
    case interface.

  4. Processing large amount of complex data accurately is more important than raw speed, however it
has shortened the process which was previously done in four months to four minutes (reduces the
    number of intermediaries).
