Blockchain Decision Tree - Reading Assignment

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?

A normal database is less expensive, efficient and more resource available

  1. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?

The consequences of using a blockchain when your really don’t need one can be higher costs, finding competent workforce to build and maintain the system

  1. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?

You would want 1 or more writers to a database in order to justify consensus

  1. The benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain are:

    • It has control functionality
    • Transactions can be set to private
    • Transactions are much more efficient and fast
    • Cheaper to build
    • Does not require additional knowledge
    • Easy to use
  2. The consequences of using blockchain could be:

    • For building trustless database
    • To show transparency
    • Focus on data immutability
    • Securing network (blockchain is practically impossible to hack)
  3. More than 1 writer to a database is needed to justify a blockchain because that proves that single person isn’t controlling the whole network, therefore showing that the network is not centralized.

  3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?

1.) It is cheaper, it is familiar with more people and talent, efficient, fast than a blockchain. If you dont need the benefits of the blockchain security, immutability, transparency then you should just use normal database.
2.) Way higher costs, more programming, way less time effective, etc…
3.)If there is only one writer, no consensus can be reached. If there is only one writer, there is nothing to be shared about the ledger.

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain? Normal databases are cheaper and is more efficient
  2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one? Unnecessarily using a blockchain would result in higher implementation and maintenance costs, as well as reduced performance.
  3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain? If there is only a single writer there is no need for trustless, consensus-based protocol

  1. Easier and cheaper to run plus there are many people familiar with normal database than blockchain

  2. It will cost more and takes longer to set up and find the right people to do it.

  3. Blockchain’s is to automate trust. A single writer can always trust himself, so there is nothing to automate.

1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?
Database is less expensive, more efficient and more people know how to build one and don’t need extra knowledge
2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
Higher costs that are not necessary, less efficiency and performance.
3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
No consensus needs to be achieved and you do not require a trust-less approach

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?
faster, cheaper and easier to use if you dont need high level security & transparency.
  2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
    slow, expensive.
  3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
1 writer is a trusted source, no need for a trustless system.

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?
Ease of use, less costly to maintain in a small setting, privacy maintained, control is maintained and there is no talent void.

  2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one? Cumbersome, expensive to establish & maintain, risk of unintended consequences, privacy and control is lost.

  3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
Having one writer, trust is not needed or efficient in the blockchain scenario. The point of a blockchain ecosystem is to do business with people / entities in a trustless ecosystem. More than one writer to the blockchain ensures security and consensus within the blockchain.

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?

  2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
Makes things overly complicated, costly and therefore less efficient.

  3. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
Theres no need for consensus. 1 Writer has no trust issues on its own.

  2. If would mean spending more time and money building something that may make systems run slower, be more expensive and harder to find team members to maintain it.

  3. If there is only 1 writer then security is not an issue and there are not multiple entry point which means there is no need for a blockchain.

1 The benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain are cheaper, faster quary, and able to make changes fast if you need to correct something even if its an honest mistake.
2. Consequences of using a blockchain when you don’t need one are, more expensive, time consuming to wait for consensus network.
3.There should be more than one writer so that data base could be shared and have consensus.

Normal databases are more efficient, cheaper and easier to build than blockchain (nowadays).

  • Unnecessary costs
  • Low efficiency

Because 1 writer have the consensus with him or her self. You don’t need the blockchain then.

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?
  • More efficient;
  • More developers, cheaper to build.
  1. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
  • Wasted resources on development;
  • Slower performance.
  1. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
  • If there is just one writer it is trusted anyway. It can write on a database and other players can query the database.

  1. What are the benefits of using a normal database instead of a blockchain?
  • Faster transactions. CRUD support.
  1. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
  • Expenses will go up and productivity will actually go down
  1. Why should there be more than 1 writer to a database in order to justify a blockchain?
  • The question of “TRUST” becomes irrelevant in the case of a single writer.

  1. cheaper, faster, easier to build

  3. with only 1 writer a blockchain is useless as no consensus is needed and trust is always given

  1. Some of the advantages of using a traditional database over a blockchain are -
Simpler - less complex to set up and use.
faster - no need for concensus of data which slows down the data entry.
Cheaper - less infrastructure needed and less time to pay specialist developers.

  2. If you used a blockchain when you didnt really require one there could be several problems you may encounter.
Slower data processing would lead to slower query times, the potential for data backlog of unconfirmed transitions not yet entered into the block could potentially have an impact on business decisions or precise financial data.
An over complicated blockchain system could frustrate users.
A rigid set of rules that are not easy to change would make the database less adaptable to evolving business needs.

  3. To justify having a blockchain there would need to be at least 2 writers to the database that would need to have consensus on the data, otherwise a more traditional database would be more suitable with a single writer.

  2. What do you think the consequences would be of using a blockchain when you in reality don’t need one?
You would spend a lot of money and time trying to integrate a blockchain and it still wouldn’t work properly.
