I purchased my first car by replacing window glazing on the owner’s house. It took me about a week to finish and it wasn’t fun, however at 16 years old I was excited to finally have a car of my own. I cleaned it up and had it looking pretty good, then two weeks later the engine went out. I would be happier with the exchange if it lasted longer, but it made for a good life lesson. I agreed to the trade so it was fair, and my next car only cost $1 and ran for 2 years. Overall a win

Pokemon cards were the thing when I was young. I still have my collection available that I’m proud of getting by bartering. I made good deals, I think. So in my opinion it was fair for me.

I used to barter marbles with my classmates. If I had some nice marbles that another kid wanted to have, he’d show me his marbles and we would trade them if I thought he had a marble that I thought was beautiful. If one marble was bigger than the other you’d have to throw in another smaller marble. I think it was a fair exchange because we would only trade if we both ended up being happy with the trade, the value was connected to your own view on that marble not on the price tag.

It is just a recent experience for me, because in order to cope with the shortage of food products, I exchanged with my neighbors, for example we exchanged a kilogram of cornmeal for a kilogram of rice, at first it seemed fair to me because an exact amount was obtained but after The product became scarcer, so the quantity was affected because the kilogram of corn flour was later exchanged for two kilograms of rice since at that time corn flour was more difficult to obtain, and the monetary value of the product did not matter. but to obtain it. What I want to express for a better understanding is that demand sets the value in this case.

Fairness can be affected by need, an exchange can have many advantages and disadvantages. Some of the elements of barter are the surplus of the product and the need for it.

I would trade sections of different chocolate bars with friends at school. It was always a bit of a puzzle to work out how much of one bar was equivalent to the a section of another bar, especially when considering the different sizes of bar and quality of the chocolate. It often felt like the kid with the smallest and highest quality bar got the best deal because they ended up trading for more chocolate in the end!

In 2013 when I first found out about Bitcoin I had a small cafe and sold food in BTC to a group of bitcoiners instead of FIAT money. At the time is was a gambled barter for me not a real transaction that showed immediate return for a service. But today those omelettes, teas and coffees have shown a hefty reward. My Fiat money would be worth the same or less as it was late 2013 but my BTC has risen 1000x

I traded a customized 1986 Harley Sportster for a Box of Parts to build a bigger Better (opinion) Motorcycle that would be worth 3x the value of the sportster. At the Time i felt like it was a fantastic trade. Not knowing that i would ultimately lose interest in motorcycles (not entirely) and never actually finish the build. But i could still re-coupe the value if i sold all the parts. Either way that’s my story. Thank you
